What is articulation? Articulation is the process by which sounds, syllables, and words are formed when your tongue, jaw, teeth, lips, and palate alter the air stream coming from the vocal folds.
Does my child have an articulation problem? When he or she produces sounds, syllables, or words incorrectly so that listeners do not understand what your child is saying. Listeners may have to pay closer attention to the way the words sound than to what they actually mean. You may also consider seeking advice from a speech pathologist if your child shows frustration because you don’t understand his/her speech. Do children learn all sounds at once? No. Sounds are learned in an orderly sequence. Although there is a range of mastery, children should make all the sounds of English by 8 years of age. Many children learn these sounds much earlier. _______________________________________________ |
